Second Mountain Madre Location coming to Merrimon Avenue

Mountain Madre, a beloved downtown Asheville restaurant known for its upscale Mexican cuisine and extensive selection of alcohol, is opening a second location this summer. Their new location at 791 Merrimon Avenue revives the former Avenue M space, which has sat dormant following Avenue M's unexpected closure in July 2024.
Mountain Madre's new location marks their first expansion since opening the flagship restaurant on Walnut Street. The original location's menu includes a mix of traditional and modern Mexican dishes, as well as a full cocktail program and what it claims is the largest agave bar in Western North Carolina. The company's new Merrimon Avenue location places Mountain Madre in close proximity to Ay Caramba Mexican Grill & Bar, a casual Mexican restaurant located roughly 200 yards away. The two restaurants offer different dining experiences, but their proximity is expected to generate competition for local diners seeking Mexican cuisine in North Asheville.
Construction and interior renovations are currently underway. The opening is targeted for late summer 2025, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
