Major subdivision proposed for North Asheville's Lakeshore Drive

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A controversial residential development off North Asheville's Lakeshore Drive has just taken a major step forward. Plans for an 18-home subdivision on the property at 550 Lakeshore Drive were officially filed with the City of Asheville last week.

The project has been the center of speculation and neighborhood rumors for months as reported by WLOS back in May. Residents in nearby Lake View Park have expressed concerns that the development could reshape the character of the area.

According to the initial application, the development would retain the existing single-family home at 550 Lakeshore Drive while constructing 18 freestanding homes on the 5.51 acre wooded lot behind it. The new homes will vary between 1,600 to 1,800 square feet and sit on lots between 0.19 and 0.58 acres.

It is yet to be seen whether the local HOA will contest this development in court. For now though, the developer's application is moving forward and is set to go before the Technical Review Committee on September 15th.
